- Identify a theme they would like to use for their search eg. dogs, fish, flowers
- Search for examples of mosaic designs using two sources eg. computer, books
- Identify the mosaic they like the most from a choice of five
- Choose a design and check with an appropriate person that it is suitable
- Draw the design on a panel eg. wood, card ensuring the picture is large enough
