The learner will:

  1. Listen and respond to different types of poetry.

  2. Write simple poetry.

Assessment criteria

What the learner need to demonstrate in order to meet the learning outcome

The learner can:

    • Listen to five to eight different poems
    • Identify and talk about repeating patterns and rhymes
    • Explain what a verse is
    • Explain what similes, metaphors and/or personification is
    • Recognise rhythms by clapping, tapping or stamping out syllables
    • Write three or four poems
    • Generate lists of words and phrases on atopic of interest
    • Include repeating patterns and rhymes
    • Include two examples of simile, metaphor and/or personification
    • Use two examples of alliteration
    • Write one poem with more two or more verses
    • Perform own poems musing music, movement, gesture,mime and or sound effects to engage an audience
