What the learner need to demonstrate in order to meet the learning outcome
The learner can:
- Explain how all substances are made of atoms and how a substance which is made of only one atom is called an element
- Label a Periodic Table with the different groups and explain how the elements are put together in certain areas of the table
- Explain how elements in the same group on the table have similar chemical properties
- Explain how an element forms a compound
- Recognise simple compounds from their names
- Write a word equation for the reactions of metals and non-metals
