Assessment criteria

What the learner need to demonstrate in order to meet the learning outcome

The learner can:

    • Find a safe, appropriate place to set up the incubator, being mindful of safety considerations such as not being in high traffic areas where the incubator might suffer a knock, or in a place vulnerable to cold or predators.
    • Manage the fertilised eggs carefully, planning how the eggs will be transferred into the incubator and using gentle hands.
    • Consider health and safety issues such as wearing gloves if needed when handling the eggs and washing hands before and after the activity.
    • Regularly monitor the eggs, making sure they notice if there are any changes in the way the eggs appear and respond appropriately.
    • Regularly check that the incubator remains in good working order.
