Assessment criteria
What the learner need to demonstrate in order to meet the learning outcome
The learner can:
- Correctly identify northing and easting numbered lines
- Describe how the lines are numbered eg the numbers going across the map from left to right (eastings) go up in value eastwards, and the numbers going up the map from bottom to top (northings) because they go up in a northward direction
- Explain how to get the first number (of the grid reference); eg; you go along the corridor (horizontal, x axis, eastings) and then up the stairs (vertical, y axis, northings)
- Accurately identify features on a simple practice map from a range of four figure grid references
- Accurately identify features on a simple practice map from a range of six figure grid references
