The learner will:
Be able to halter a horse and take them on an in-hand walk to forage for horse-safe foods.
Be able to demonstrate knowledge of safety when taking horse out for a forage walk.

Assessment criteria
What the learner need to demonstrate in order to meet the learning outcome
The learner can:
- Identify the horse that they will take out
- Select appropriate equipment to halter and lead a horse
- Demonstrate approaching and haltering the horse in a manner which minimises risk
- Demonstrate leading a horse safely on an in-hand walk to forage for horse-safe food
- Give one example of a safe place to take the horse on a forage walk and one example of a dangerous place to take the horse on a forage walk
- Identify a safe and appropriate area to allow a horse to eat whilst out on a forage walk
- Demonstrate safely releasing the horse on return
- Explain why all gates and doors should be shut securely
- Select appropriate PPE for completing the activity safely
- Identify three items growing in the wild that are safe for horses to eat
- Demonstrate allowing horses to forage safely
- Demonstrate maintenance of the health and safety of self, others, and animals during the activity
